I think that a majority of us already knew what "binge watching" was,
however I don't think many of us had thought of it in the point of view
that Stevie brought up. I found it very intriguing that he brought up
the point that binge watching is more or less a glorified term for couch
potato and it is completely true! It is sad that what used to be
frowned upon by our parents is now a popular hobby in our society and I think it is mostly due to our advancements in technology. TV is even more accessible now than it was when our generation were kids, not only with Netflix but also with DVR and being able to rewind and pause live television.
I
am as guilty as anyone else and indulge in a little netflix binge
watching, but only when I have the time to. My version of binge watching
isn't as extreme as some examples, I usually only watch 3 or 4
episodes....which is obviously still binge watching just not as drastic
as others. I don't know if I could personally sit down and watch an
entire season of a show in one day, I am too much of a busy body and
usually think of things I need to do while watching just 1 episode.
However
with the semester wrapping up all I can think about is the fact that on
the first day after I finish my finals all I want to do is sit down and
binge watch on Netflix and go pin crazy on Pinterest. Now my next
thought is what will I choose to binge watch. I could watch One Tree
Hill or How I Met Your Mother, I've recently restarted watching them
both but haven't had time in a while. I could also catch up on Grey's
Anatomy...I'm about 3 seasons behind. Or maybe I'll watch Orange Is The
New Black, I've watched some of the first episode but that's about all.
Stevie's lecture made me interested to watch it, and it is obviously a
common choice for others to binge watch. I think this is largely due to it only being available on Netflix, the entire season was available and no one had to wait for next week to watch the new episode and could immediately satisfy their curiosity of what will happen in the next episode.
I think binge watching can be a treat if people treat it as a reward, like I have this semester. However if we continue to binge watch tv and abuse Netflix like so many do, I don't think that it is good for our already advanced lifestyles.
