Binge watching a TV series that not over is NO GOOD

Over the summer I got wind of a TV show called game of thrones and knew little to nothing about it. I was at my friend’s house and was told to just watch one episode with them and make my own opinion because when I heard what it was about I was skeptical. After I sat through that one episode, I was hooked. I went home later that night and watched 3 more; the next day was another 3. It kept getting worse and worse.
It got to a point where I would be at work and have no one really around me to hear what’s on my computer so I would watch episodes in the office until I heard someone walking in. I would get a good 4 episodes in at work and they are an hour a piece, so pretty much I watched that show about half the time I was even at work.  I would watch during work and during my breaks, and when I got home until I went to sleep. It only took me under 2 weeks to get three seasons down and then I had to wait.
I finished the episodes in the summer and the new season did not start until the spring, it was a horrible wait. But now that its back, I watch it all the time, I watch the new episodes multiple times and watch old ones when I am bored. Game of thrones is one great shoe, but binge watching it during the summer when the new season didn’t come on until now was a horrible idea.

Is reality TV, Reality?

Last class we talked about Reality TV shows and how it affects people’s persecutions. Also how it portrays different types of people, and what stereotypes reality TV tries to amplify. In this blog I am going to talk about two different examples of this and how they not only enforce stereotypes but also how it affects peoples view on them.
One good example is the real world, they try to come off as a normal group of young adults being put together in a house and being able to just hang out with each other and enjoy the city. One thing they don’t say, that changes peoples perceptions is that when the people are interview to possibly get in the show, the TV companies look for people they know will cause fights which gets more views.

Another example is, like discussed in class, Honey boo boo. This show is portrayed to be a non-educated lower class family. We found out that this portrayal is not true because when the family is seen outside of the show, they come off way more educated. One example that show how much more educated they are in real life was when they showed the mom at the Wendy Williams show where she talked about how she is saving money for her kids to have access to when they become 18, and other smart fiscal moves that can help them maintain their new wealth. The Honey Boo Boo show add subtitles and amplifies the “stupid” mistakes that they make but in reality they are only showing the worst parts of the nine month they tape the show, so in boost the Stereotypes they are trying to get across.

My parasocial relationship that I WILL one day make real

For this blog I want to talk about my love for Selena Gomez and how crazy or far I go with it. I have liked this lady since I first met her on Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel. The show made it around 4 seasons and I watch it all, just for her. She is beautiful, and great at acting. I went as far as to see both low budget films she has been in just to see her in it.
Also I get all her music and listen too it when I want to think about her. I have so many pictures of her on my walls in my room, in my phone, on the computer and just anywhere I can, to be always remembered of her beauty.

Even though this is weird I am like to search her on Internet and see what new news is out about her so I feel like I get the latest news on here and so we can be more connected. I follow her on all social media outlets, like instagram, twitter, and Facebook and look at her personal website religiously. I really feel like this is getting a little bad some times but honestly it doesn’t matter, all I need is Justin beiber to stay out of the picture and I will be right there to finally get with my women. This may be a parasocial relationship for now but I will soon make this a real relationship because she is too beautiful to not go after.

Masculinity is Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor

For this blog I decided to talk about something that was discussed in class today, Masculinity in TV. This is something that is seen more often then most people might think. First lets start with the actual definition, masculinity is a set of qualities, characteristics or roles generally considered typical of, or appropriate to, a man. This definition can include a lot of examples seen on TV everyday; one that stood out to me when I first heard about this topic was Tim Alan, who played Tim “The Tool man” Taylor on the TV show Home Improvements. I thought about this TV show because I feel like it best represents the use of masculinity in the show. Some example of this would be when Tim is working on his car in the garage all-day and trying to get his sons to learn the importance of working on your own cars rather than getting someone else to do the maintenance on it. Another example is he stars in his own show that talks all about how to build stuff, along side one of his best friends who is also all about building things. The also put a sterotype of the dumb male, when they added Tim’s best friend in the show because he is show doing some dumb things that gets them both hurt or in danger. In the end, this whole show is a perfect example of the use of masculinity in TV which is what we discussed in class today.

My parasocial relationship with Beyonce

For this blog I though I would talk about my relationship with my future wife, also known as BeyoncĂ©. This relationship would be a parasocial relationship for the simple fact that she has no clue who I am, for now that is. But this is not your adverse crush on a celebrity; I think my love for this woman is something special and I say that because of the extremes I have taken in the past to learn more about her life and what new things she is doing. Some reasons I say that this is a parasocial relationship would include me checking her Facebook, Instagram, and any other forms of social media that she has. This way I can keep up to date information on what she is doing and how she is doing. Some other reasons would be me Google searching her name at least a week to see what news are out there about her that I wouldn’t see normally on social media, and having pictures of her in my room. Although a lot of people know about my obsession for this beautiful lady, I always get people coming up to me asking how am I suppose to be in love with a woman who has a husband and a child. My response is easy, she is only keeping herself occupied until I graduate college and move to LA so we can start dating, and the baby was just show for the public, its really an adopted child. At the end of the day, BeyoncĂ© will always be my woman and no one is going to say otherwise, especially not Jay Z!
