Long Distance Relationships

After reading the A Long Distance Affair I wanted to do a blog entry about my long distance relationship with my current girlfriend and my old high school friends. After reading through this I felt like that within this particular article probably hits home for most college students. I feel that long distance relationships, within the current age, are very possible with modern technology and this can also, as the author suggests, create conflict for college students are also maintaining their friendships with their high school friends.

             I find it easy at time to maintain my current long distance relationship with my girlfriend who lives three states away. At times it does seem quite difficult but in comparison to old hand written letters it is quite easy. With the use of cell phones I am able to text her and she is able to respond back instantly. As stated within the article it is also easy to actually see each other often through the computer program Skype. Even though it is hard to not actually be with my girl friend technology, I believe, gives us the ability to ease the pain of maintaining a long distance relationship.

            The second part of the article suggests that previous high school friends actual creates conflict for students to make new friends and thus makes it harder to adapt to college. I do not know how other college students feel about that this but I do not find this to be hard or disrupts my college experience. Even though I Facebook and keep in contact with friends from high school it has not affected me within college. I have many friends that are currently attending college as well as starting family. I will have to disagree with the article in this particular way. I may be a unique in the fact I maybe be a minority and actually this article might be correct; but within my life this is not a factor.

            Overall though technology is a great way to keep in contact with friends from the past as the article suggest. With the ability to skype, text, facebook, and tweet friends and current relationships, this bridges distances between people and even gives hope within long distance relationships. A personal friend of my said that “Facebook is almost like Heaven a place were we can interact and keep up with anyone and everyone all at once”. I think this is a pretty good way to describe not only Facebook but also technology as a whole.
