Parasocial Relationship.....kinda

The last couple of days, for some reason, I have been really been putting some hours on my Pandora App and it got me thinking about my favorite artists. I then started to analyze all the station I had on my list and when I actually took time to add them. I came to the conclusion that I had a number of "favorite" artists, it really just depends on my mood, but I definitely have Shwayze on my upper tiers of artists. I know what some of you are thinking....Shwayze? Really? I can even bet most of the students have heard a mere two of his songs, so I asked myself why am I such a big fan of this guy?

I concluded that I like him because he reminds me of myself. His first self titled album is arguably my favorite of all time. I was in high school when I first heard one of his catchy songs and then really picked up on all the songs on his CD. I was into his west coast laid back vibe, somewhat reckless and carefree, but definitely a clever rapper. His songs were based on good times to come, lazy afternoons, and enjoying the good things in live. I think that sums up my high school experience so I think that's why I find his music to be on of my definite favorites. Unfortunately, after his first album he made a turn into the indie rock scene and was a little too "pop" for me. He started making music sounding like Cobra Starship instead of his original acoustic beachside flow. Thats why I say its somewhat of a parasocial relationship because I don't have it with Shwayze since I feel he changed a bit, I have it with his music from his album. I felt I related to his life through his music because I made associations through my experiences. I know just about every word to every song, but wouldn't change it for a thing! Check him out if you are a bit curious...
