About E-Waste

I saw the news on the facebook and feel like I have to share my thoughts to you guys.

I believe you guys who are in TCOM major/minors must learnt about E-waste in TCOM 101. For those who don't know, I can do a short intruduce of what is E-waste.
Based on Wikipedia:" E-waste is electronic waste,  describes discarded electrical or electronic devices. There is a lack of consensus as to whether the term should apply to resale, reuse, and refurbishing industries, or only to a product that cannot be used for its intended purpose. Informal processing of electronic waste in developing countries may cause serious health and pollution problems, though these countries are also most likely to reuse and repair electronics."

So it is a kind of "trash" that used by human beings in electronic ways.
An estimated 50 million tons of E-waste are produced each year. The USA discards 30 million computers each year and 100 million phones are disposed of in Europe each year.
There are some trade about E-waste. Many countries pay for send their E-trash to Asian or African countries.  China remains a major e-waste dumping ground for developed countries.

Look at this picture, there is a kid sitting in tons of electronic trash. Isn't this shocked our hearts?
Not only in developing countries, also in developed countries recycling and disposal of e-waste would involve significant risk to communities and workers. Those e-waste including lots of heavy metals which is harmful and caused disater for human bodies. It would only be worse if it affected in kids.

I want to point out that we as a college student, we have the responsibilities to avoid this kind of tragedy attacked on anyone or any family. PLEASE recycle those electronic devices, you may donate, or recycle, as long as you reduce the harm to the minimum.
