Barth

So…Parasocial relationships…am I right!?!?!

People have one-sided relationships all the time with celebrities, random people down the hall, Happy Friday Guy, and in some cases…house hold potted plants. Okay okay…I know what you’re thinking it’s not an illegal plant. His name is Barth and I water him everyday and I may or may not talk to him from time to time.

I don’t find it weird at all. I find it very healthy for both Barth and me. In my defense there are many studies on how household plants are a good source of an anti-depressant and also talking to a plant helps it grow. However…that does make it sound that our “relationship” isn’t really one sided at all since Barth makes me happy and by talking to him I help him grow.

A little back story…

At the beginning of fall semester my household had a party and it was awesome! However…the next morning a potted plant was in our house. No one knew how it got there. It just appeared. So we named him….Barth. When we found him he was dying and only had one leaf. Now…I’ve watered him, talked to him, and took care of him and he has six leaves and has never been healthier! He even has his own Twitter account. Crazy. My roommates don’t know this yet but when I move out I am taking Barth with me.

So…Parasocial relationships…am I right?!?!?!
