As a little girl, I remember running home from school to make it just in time for Rocket Power, my favorite show. I liked this show so much because it reminded me so much of my life at that time. I was a tomboy, who always ran around with the boys, who just happened to be skateboarders. I think I enjoyed this show so much because it never showed the girl character as less than the boys. She could do just as much as the boys and was just a tough as the boys. I feel lucky that my mom let me watch shows like Rocket Power or The Wild Thornberrys because it let me explore my adventurous side, and now being a young adult, I can see that connection. The girls in most if not all of the Nickelodeon shows never really gave a damn. Clarissa from Clarissa Explains It All marched to the beat of her own drum and wore funky clothing. Her character inspired me to explore my style and wear crazy clothing to school, just because I could. The Wild Thornberry girls were always exploring and playing fun, made up games, which I did as a young girl.
The article by Sarah Banet-Weiser that we read for class was by far my favorite from this class. I still watch all the old Nickelodeon shows when I can and now that I have this connection from when I was a little girl to now, it is even more fun to watch these shows.
