The Death of the English Language

Now, using all the syllables normally included in a word is going out of style. We've all seen post after post by fellow college students utilizing millennial slang words such as perf, totes, obvi, etc. Can this blatant disregard for proper english be remedied? No. And here are three reasons why:

1. Trending Social Interaction
Perf, totes, and obvi didn't become common overnight and they won't become uncommon overnight. We will eventually grow out of this phase, but it won't be because of one specific thing.

2. Blending Mediums
Texting, Tweeting, and Instagram don't call for proper English and they are some of our main forms of communication. It's much more understandable to abbreviate a word or phrase in a text or tweet than it is to use slang in a face to face setting.

3. People Don't Care
We live in an age where everything is instant, which breeds apathy and kills curiosity. As long as whoever you're talking to doesn't have to look up a big word you just used such as "droll", they are content.

English is a wonderful language, but no one knows that because of how mistreated it is. We are talking about talking, which is the an important distinguishing factor between us and every other species on this planet. We should strive to better ourselves, but mostly our vocabularies and not be content with abusing our best form of communication. I am very much looking forward to the day when people finish two syllable words and if you're reading this, you should too.
