A little obsessed with Criminal Minds

During my sophomore year my roommate introduced me to a life changing phenomenon called, Criminal Minds. Before then I had only heard about the show on the TV Guide channel, but had never watched it until last year. After one episode I was hooked.

For those who are not familiar with Criminal Minds, allow me to explain the plot. The show centers around FBI agents in a special unit of the force called the Behavioral Analysis Unit or (BAU) that takes on special cases around the country. In this unit we have Aaron Hotchner, unit chief, Derek Morgan, Dr. Spencer Reid, Jennifer Jereau, Penelope Garcia, and David Rossi (give and take a few more agents that come and go). These agents are classified as profilers and travel to help local police force solve crimes that deal "unsubs" (or unknown subjects). On paper, Criminal Minds sounds similar to many other crime fighting shows, but for me it's on a much higher level of amazingness.

My obsessions with this show isn't because it solves crimes and has good looking actors, which it does (two words: Shemar Moore). My obsessions of this show comes from the fact that it changes my thinking which is a good and bad thing. Because of Criminal Minds I think like the BAU team. I find myself on a constant state of alarm thinking that there might be an unsub close by looking at me as his/her next victim.

While this state of alarm has provided many sleepless nights when I've been home alone for a weekend, it's also made me aware of my surroundings. I now take notice of the little things that could be my saving grace if there is someone trying to harm me. I know that I'm no BAU agent, but I much closer to it than I used to be.
