Jen-dar Norrrr-ems!

Gender norms though....am I right!?!?!

I can remember when I was a little tike I wouldn't be caught dead walking in the barbie isle in Wal-Mart. I always used to think one of my schoolmates would see me and I would be embarrassed. It's funny now that i think about it because I was seriously so worried about it because that was the "girl" isle and boys shouldn't be walking down a "girl" section of the store because that's just how things were.

I wonder where I got that idea...Oh...probably the media. It's crazy how the media can easily sculpt how we act, think, or basically make our decisions for us without us even realizing it, especially when we are children.

A couple months ago I heard about a news story about a school telling one of their elementary female students that she wasn't "girly" enough. I don't understand that...I mean when I was in elementary school there were tons of girls who were tom boys. I don't believe my friends and piers really cared that much how girly a girl was or how tough a guy was...we were just who we were and there was nothing wrong with that. But in todays world...every little thing matters...thus making it more difficult for kids to be kids and making it that much harder to grow up.

Crazy....
