Personally, I view reality
television as far from what reality is really like. Shows such as The Real
Housewives of New Jersey does give us a perception that people who are hard
working, dedicated, and real will make the most out of life, but they also give
us a warped image of reality. The people in this show go to work during the
day, but then their nights consist of gossiping about what it is going on in
the town and their concern with their self-image. But hardworking people all
across the world know that your work only continues even after you are clocked
out. Families go home and prepare dinner, clean the house, make sure they are
taking care of their children, etc. Because of shows like this, young adults,
such as myself, expect it to only get easier after we graduate. But in reality,
life is a continuous road of working towards our goals and happiness.
But are the characters on The Real
Housewives of New Jersey really that happy, or are they happy with as perfect
as it may seem on paper? Certain characters perceive themselves as happy
individuals because they are seen as wealthy, but in reality they deep down
could be far from happy when it comes to their relationship with the world
around them. To me, money can’t be your happiness. They might be able to buy
things that make you feel better about themselves for a short period of time,
but this can also be viewed as a chase from reality. I have learned that this
perception of “reality” is actually far from what the real world is really like.
Life is a never-ending road that I will
continue on even after I graduate, and my perception on reality is what I make
of it.
