Snooki is known for her time as a
cast member on the show Jersey Shore on MTV, not for who she was before the
show and now that she is off the show. Snooki grew up in a house where both
parents worked. Her father was a volunteer firefighting and an auto- salvage
supervisor and her mother was an office manager. Snooki was an average child.
She was a cheerleader in high school, battled an eating disorder, and went to
college to be a veterinary technician. She then became a cast member of the
Jersey Shore. Here is where I believe everything changed—because of fame and
reality tv. Being on the show caused the cast members, to binge drink, go to
clubs, get in fights, etc more often than they probably ever did before being
on the show. Then Snooki got pregnant. Strangers begin criticizing her
lifestyle more than ever--telling her that someone like her should not be
allowed to have a child, etc. Once she had her baby, Lorenzo, people started
getting on her for how much she was working out, for losing so much weight, and
that she was falling back to her old ways.
Fame and reality tv changes people;
however, it does not always change the core values of a person. I believe
Nicole, Snooki, is a good person and has done well for herself and her family.
The show can be seen as a setback, but it was a learning experience and you
could see that as the seasons progressed. During the final season, when Snooki
was pregnant, she realized being in the house was not good for her or her
child. In that season, you saw Snooki grow as a person and turn into a more
responsible adult. She is still her goofy, bubbly person, but now she puts her
child and family first…yes I may be semi-biased due to a partial parasocial
relationship that Snooki and I have.
