We are Zombies and Social Media is the Problem

In general I have a pretty philosophical mind. I spend a lot of my down time staring at my TV and thinking about things that are probably pretty irrelevant to a lot of other people that I have met. However, I took the time to watch a few episodes of the walking dead for the first time in my life.  Not really because I care about the show but because after the Eric Watts lecture I it really provoked me to do a little more research into the connection between Zombies and our society.  To be honest the show really is not something that I am interested in all, I think there are plenty of other shows, *cough cough* Game of Thrones that I feel are more worthy of my day.
However, it got me thinking about how our society can really relate to them.  For example, I connect with a lot of people on Facebook that attend different schools and many of them have a passion for politics. One of them posted a really a political post with a really negative outlook on Humanity.  He stated that the poor are sucking the life out of the economy, and how they are all alcoholics and drug addicts that want people who work to pay for their addictions. A few years ago, I probably would have agreed with him but in truth it is a prime example of how society is becoming zombified. In my opinion social media is the biggest problem.  We have supplemented virtual relationships for physical ones; we would rather sit at home and consume rather than go out and experience true empathy for people who live under more difficult circumstances than we do.  That is the true meaning of a zombie, but sadly the only way that we are going to be able to stop it is if we take the time to educate people through daily conversation, which in these days will almost always be over social media, the problem.
