Am I a virtual citizen soldier?
I love to play video game like Splinter Cell and Call of Duty. These games usually feature heavy military exposure, a lot of action, and a lot of shooting. From the video we watched in class about the US Army Gaming Center that was located in a mall, it seems that the military and game developers may be working hand in hand. It's no secret that we like the war and violence and gaming companies know that these are the games that usually selling much better. So it would make a lot of sense that the armed forces would want to use these games to try and gain kids interest in the military. My brothers and I play games like Call of Duty and Gears of War on Xbox Live and we had a blast doing it. In a way it taught us teamwork, battle tactics, and want different types of weapons did and what they looked like. So much so that my brother James really got invested at Gears of War and was actually ranked #4 in the world at one point. His interest in military games and movies rose and he is currently in training in California with the United States Marine Corps. I think when we played these games it definitely provided him with some interest and a sense of brotherhood on the battlefield that he may have wanted to experience in real life. Do I think that it is a bad thing that video games and movies may have persuaded him to join the armed forces? No. He loves want he does and it makes him happy. But when I asked him if he thought there was a connection, and that video game companies worked with the military he told me, "without a doubt."
