It is one of the most craziest idea I have heard that playing game can change the world. The TED talk we heard in class today, I actually heard it last year. And yes, till now, I still think it is a crazy idea. First of all, Jane McGonigal suggested the game-playing time should increase. And she said the epic win that game brings to people can be significant of improvement of world.
My point is how matter how real a game made, it is still a game. It cannot replace the real world we are actually in. The problems happened in real world is unlike the mission in game. The mission in the game is that always has a solution to deal with it. But the problems in the real world, some of them cannot handle today. Some of them don't have a solution on them. And the people in game is unlike the people in real world. People in game can cure themselves by picking some stuff, or even can come back from death. But the real people, once they get injured, they may die. And once they died, they die. That's why I don't agree the thesis of Jane. Because game is different from real world. It is no way that depending on playing games to solve the world's problems.
Besides, if everyone spend most of their time of playing game, how to manage the world? No one to work, no food produced, the world will go to fall.
The idea that game can solve world's problem maybe incredible, but I don't think the idea can be implement. It seems too ideal to me. I will still focus on the real world to solve the real problems. I won't rely on playing games to save my world.
