I have seen several reports about
girls doing better than boys in schools. Some people believe that is because the
educational system nowadays more focus on memory and recite, and the others believe
that the reasons are girls work harder and desire to succeed. In addition, more
and more girls who do not have clear characteristics of female become popular
now. Their target audience are wider, not only boys but girls. Girls around me
are becoming more independent. They wear short hairs, do not wear dresses, and
do not expect help from boys. Whatever the reasons of these phenomena, the
result is that girls seem get higher status now.
However, do girls really become
more powerful nowadays? From the definition from class, empowered girls reject
boys, are social, are the lead, are complicated or contradictory, and are “real”.
Actually, those empowered girls are not those who are neutral in appearance,
but those who look like “girls” and also have desire to control. Those empowered
girls are like princesses. To some extent, it is a good thing, because they
want to fight for themselves. At the same time, they will be spoiled and become
out of control. They will get mad easily, focus too much on appearance, and
expect the coming of princes. If those empowered act this way, they will be loss
their power.
The girls seem have made progress
in fighting for equal power for themselves, but they must be very careful or
they will be taken advantages of.
