Big Bang Theory is
a pretty clever show. They are able to write a show about loveable nerds that
are easy enough to understand for everyone. I’ve always been the computer guy,
the video game guy, and the science-is-cool guy. It blows peoples’ minds that I
don’t care about Big Bang Theory.
Why? It feels more and more like the nerds have become the
punch line. Sheldon has become a Steve Urkel. He’s likeable but still just the
permanent joke with no chance for a Stefan Urquelle (I admit I Googled
it). Lord knows how long it took them to
write in a decent female character into the show. We like Penny of course.
She’s attractive and much more normal than the rest of the cast. At some point
I just felt she was there to remind us how weird the guys were just when we
were starting to treat them like normal human beings.
The genre is making a rise and it ‘s becoming more apparent
with shows like Alphas or Silicon Valley. I understand that TV
shows exaggerate characters and situations all the time and I’m not mad about
that, but I can’t imagine that politicians like to watch House of Cards in their time off or a news team watching The Newsroom. To them, I’d imagine the
shows could be renamed, how People on the
Outside See you and What is Important to You. So to wrap it up, I don’t
deny that Big Bang or Silicon Valley is funny or a good show,
I just don’t ever see myself watching it on my own.
